paint came off antique wood coffee table?
I just bought an antique wood coffee table. We leaned it on its side against a metal surface and some paint came off. Why? And what do I do so that the paint doesn't come off easily in the future?

Most antique furniture is natural wood. I am surprised it is painted. Would you consider stripping it to the natural wood?
How long do you think the paint had been on?? Could have been damp when painted--if recently.
Is the wood solid where the paint came off--not soft--as in rotting??
I would suggest taking it to an antique dealer or someone knowledgeable and let them take a look at it.
